The Jed Report: Why Sarah Palin's Inexperience Is Unique And Relevant

McCain = gollum, that's great. Your dad's awesome.

    Here, here!!

"He was chosen by voters after a long and hard campaign".

You nailed it Jed's Dad. Preach!
  • Debra Moore/Milwaukee · 1 year ago
Wow! Dad Lewison, what insight! great metaphors to describe Obama's speech last night. Hey Jed, take some pointers from dear ole dad. Seriously, you are exactly right. When I heard he had picked Palin, my first reaction was, first of shock, then reality set in as to why he did it. Foolish, foolish old man. Talk about the lack of judgment. He's not concerned about this country, he simply wants to win any way he can and he's gambling with Palin. They don't even look right together!
  • debrazza · 1 year ago
Keith Boykin is hitting Palin hard on abortion.
  • middlegirl · 1 year ago
Spot on, Mr. Lewison. I can see that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. We all think Jed is so great, you must be proud.
  • Debra Moore/Milwaukee · 1 year ago
So she's been Govenor of Alaska just about as long as Obama has been running for president, WOW! she is so far removed from mainstream America in Alaska, how could she identify with the people?
  • SeattleAJ · 1 year ago
Good point that Sarah Palin was appointed, not elected, Mr. Lewison. McCain made his choice based on the same criteria that Bush uses to make ALL his appointments for US Attorneys - solely based on their ideology. McCain is looking more like Bush every day.

Here I was afraid that McCain would pick another Dick Cheney, and he picked another Dan Quayle! Democrats are going to have a field day bringing up the Quayle-Palin similarities.

(cool that you even know who Gollum is. Zero chance that my Dad could identify Gollum)

"He was chosen by voters after a long and hard campaign".

Yep. My nervous disposition on the matter needed to hear that. Thanks for the insight.
  • debrazza · 1 year ago
Palin says Hillary is a "whiner". Unreal.
  • shel · 1 year ago
Is it just me or are you guy stunned by this??? I would imagine that Democrats everywhere are thrilled?

    WTF was he thinking?
  • debrazza · 1 year ago
What he was thinking was doing another one of those video press releases that the media loves to run, but on a much bigger scale. This is a video press release, but with real consequences. McCain just doesn't see it.
  • Panderin Palin · 1 year ago
  • C. Neiman · 1 year ago
Yes, the cynicism -- selecting a VP for pure political advantage (perceived) and passing over whatever talent there IS in the Republican party -- is the message of this first administrative decision by McCain. And that's the point that should be driven home.
  • Jallenrule · 1 year ago
I agree sir. Once the initial eyebrow-raise wears off (which I imagine will take only a matter of days, perhaps only hours), this is going to backfire on McCain.

    Talk about POOR jugement.

They think this is somehow paying respect to the achievements of Hillary Clinton, but they are really doing the complete opposite. This is nothing more than pandering at it's complete rock-bottom, and is not only an insult to Hillary, but also to those who supported her (while SHE was the one doing all the leg work).

So what, this woman just gets a free pass without lifting a finger? Are you kidding me?

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who knows John McCain's real opinion of equal rights for women: now instead of Hillary being the leader of this movement, John McCain wants to take that power out of a woman's hand, and put it back in control of a man.

I think McCain just pissed in one pool too many with this one.
  • debrazza · 1 year ago
    Jed,

Please tell me you just taped the Cafferty File. Oh my! It was hilarious. He totally nailed it.

Also, I think the Obama campaign should say that "this pick proves that John McCain is a liar, he's spent months saying that Barack Obama is unqualified to be President and now he choses someone who has no foreign policy qualifications and claims that she is qualified be President of the United States."
  • RandyH · 1 year ago
    The cafferty file on Palin:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6MVmv1OY6Q

My favorite comparison from it - Palin is to McCain as Harriett Meyers is to Bush.
  • PimpMC · 1 year ago
Hey I've been a lurker here, but I must say, Jed, this is one of my favorite sites. I actually bookmarked it. Anyways I want to weigh in on why I think Palin is not ready to by VP, or President. I have watched all the commentary after her acceptance speech and no one brought up the fact that she, in front of a worldwide audience, broke Operational Security the Military prides itself on. She announced the MOS of her son serving in the Army, and went on to say the exact date and the country her son"s unit will deploy too. She has not only endangered the life of her son, but all the other soldiers in his unit. Senator John McCain never talked about his own son"s service for that very reason. I think it shows the lack of Judgment on the part of McCain"s Camp to not screen her speech and shows her own inexperience on the National Stage. For a candidate who prides himself on National Security his Vice Presidential choice just blew that argument out of the water. So why are we not talking about this issue
  • dkawaii · 1 year ago
Pimp MC, Great point. She just announced to the enemy that there is a high value target (the son of a VP candidate) arriving on x day. Now the enemy just has to track his son's unit.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if his deployment is announced as delayed due to the hurricane.

Prince William had to be pulled out of Afganistan as soon as his presence was reveiled.

To think that they would flaunt his service for political gain. Shame!
  • Jezreel · 1 year ago
PimpMC. Your comment was very informative. I agree with your assessment. Thank you for the information.

LOVE the gollum imagery. Jed needs to make a video!

I'm grinning from ear-to-ear about this the more it settles in. LOL, what a doofus! I can't wait to see this play out in the days to come.

What more could you want in a potential President who was say--in tricky negotiations with Putin?
  • hj · 1 year ago
Why is it that when Sarah Palin is asked about her children on 2/24/08 her reply is 4 children with no mention of her 5th, is this the action of a prolifer?
or do I have my math really confused?
  • Jed Lewison · 1 year ago
the fifth was born in april
  • JustThinkin · 1 year ago
Her 5th was born in April. That should be another question of the appropriateness of her selection. Should the mother of a 4 month old and other small children hold such an office?
  • A Patriot · 1 year ago
DO ANY OF YOU HAVE A ONE PAGE PRINT OUT THAT COMPARES OBAMA AND MCCAIN ON THE ISSUES? I KNOW MANY FOLKS THAT WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SUCH A PRINT OUT AS THEY SPEAK WITH UNDECIDED VOTERS. PLEASE PROVIDE A LINK IF YOU HAVE THIS.

    Thank.

    Obama/Biden '08!!!
  • John P. Teschke · 1 year ago
What about her effort to use the governorship status to get her ex brother in law sacked from his state police position? It's pathetic small-town politics. It torpedoes the "experience" argument entirely, since it shows McCain doesn't give a shit about it. His own experience as a toady to Keating and his other key appointments: a foreign policy advisor in the pay of a foreign satellite government which has gone off the reservation to start a war, whether or not at the behest of the US govt. shows McCain's qualification. As far as Monty Python goes, Cleese has already endorsed Barack. He should see if he can also get Michael Palin's endorsement, since the Alaska gov. seems like a Monty Python candidate.
  • Cynthia, TX · 1 year ago
Jed, he got highjacked last night by the neocons...because their inside polling numbers had them scared with the evangelical vote that some of it had gone over to Obama or where sittting it out. The right wingers are having a field day with this pick! They truly believe the Hillary supporters will move over! I just don't see that happening.
  • mypolitics · 1 year ago
PimpMC that was the first thing my husband, a Navy Vet said when he heard Sarah say that. That exposed her total lack of inexperience at a very base level, scary. I won't repeat his exact words ;-)

I just get this feeling McCain did this last minute soley as a way to get the news off the Dem convention, I think it was a total panic move on his part.

To Jeds Dad, thanks for sharing, love the 'my precious' line. And you have a great son! Keeping us informed like no other site on the WWW.

  • Rabs · 1 year ago
The more I think about it, the more this pick makes me angry. It's such an obvious disgusting pander it's as if McCain thinks all women are just plain idiots. It speaks volumes about his character.
  • IDTT · 1 year ago
Wow, the apple does not fall far from the tree! The "Precious" analogy sums it perfectly! My apologies to all the women who will read this post, but I think Sen McCAin has made a decision to go after the "MILF" vote. I give it less than a week before a freckled-faced 19-yr old looks earnestly into a camera and says he's voting for the ticket because "she's got 5 kids and is still totally hot". I'm being facetious, but would it surprise any of you later if you found out J-Mac went for it? Once again the media is allowing the Republicans to piss on a historic accomplishment by Sen Obama. The speech in Germany was loused up, not by anything Sen Obama did, but by the way the Repulicans chose to spin it. And now this. WTF??? Win or lose this election, 50-100 yrs from now, will history remember Sarah Palin doing a pale Sen Clinton imitation or will they still talk about Sen Obama's two incredible speeches? The absolute most appaling thing about this is they KNOW Sen McCain is only doing this to crap on Obama's bounce! They give this bogus decision more & more credibility every time they talk about it.
  • Onan · 1 year ago
PIMPMC nailed it on the head . She gave out military movement info , total breach of national security as well as military protocol . PLEASE get the video and spread it around . This is PROOF of her as well as McC's inexperience and bad judgement .
  • JackieInCA · 1 year ago
Jed's Dad - you nailed it. McCain's judgment is awful. It is clear he only puts his ambition 1st, not the good of the country.

What obvious pandering. This woman is no Hillary. How stupid does McCain think we are?
  • middlegirl · 1 year ago
    Hilarious McCain/Palin campaign visual

The upside of this pick is the potential for parody is unlimited.

Is it just me or are you guy stunned by this??? I would imagine that Democrats everywhere are thrilled?

Yes, exactly that. It's like watching your foe self-combust. The spectacle of watching the glitzy sparks shoot all over the place.

thanks Jed's dad. you're on the money.

    LMAO at the Gollum reference.
  • ObamaPride · 1 year ago
    Hi Mr. R. Lewison,

Welcome. "EXCELLENT" points and well written. I "AGREE" with "ALL" you have said, and I hope MSM will rake McCain over the coals like they have been doing Sen. Obama day in and day out. I just read where Palin is dirty and seems like the Republicans have bought her for the oil leases and land in Alaska. Hmmmmm......America is watching this, and wow Campbell Brown is giving Pat Buchanan's sister a hard time. Uh oh, Campbell just backed down. Thank you.

"Those who compare Palin's slim experience with Obama's should remember that Obama wasn't chosen by a dispeptic old man to run for office. He was chosen by voters after a long and hard campaign."

Spot on! This is exactly the point.

    Great post!
  • Vigil · 1 year ago
Wow! Can anyone provide me with obama's voting record?? Call me idealistic, but doesn’t the person elected to any office vote (or act) on behalf of his constituents? How has obama given evidence of change? His voting record (or lack thereof) does not support his rhetoric.
  • Timesobserver · 1 year ago
I just wrote in my blog an editorial that McCain picked Palin because she's a woman. However, while she doesn't have the big experience, just like Obama, she has been elected to be a leader more times than Obama, who has been elected to represent the people. She does have a bit more leadership experience than Obama.

Also, while she is inexperienced in a very large sense, it's not like she's running for president. It's the experienced McCain who is running for president, not her.
  • Darius · 1 year ago
McCain just won the election. Smart move asking Sarah Palin to be his running mate. She's smart, stands firm for positive American things and she's a lot better looking than Biden. hey, listen to this, Obama was on track to win this election big time and he made the critical mistake of aligning himself with Joe Biden. Bye bye Biden. Hello, CHANGE...because a 'dispeptic' old man and a woman nearly half his age in the White House will certainly bring that. Good bye BUSH and HELLO MCCAIN
  • Dusty · 1 year ago
Palins inexperience is relevent and it points to McCains judgement, again. There should be a way that Obama could keep drilling that home while not personally attacking Palin. Some women voters may have a problem with attacking a woman candidate.
  • page · 1 year ago
    @ JustThinkin

While Palin's inexperience is laughable, she absolutely can't be questioned based on her motherhood. If she was a male candidate with several children, that issue wouldn't even be brought up. This just proves how sexist America still is -- The mother obviously has to stay home with the children instead of pursuing an equally high (or higher) calling?

    For shame!
  • Cory James · 1 year ago
    @page

I may be ill-informed here, but how many presidents/vice presidents have had children in the toddler range? (by the way, I know you can't see the tone that I'm typing this with, but it's really not pugnacious) It shouldn't be a factor in selection for sure, but wow, I do pity the child for not being able to recieve that mutual parental attention.

Then again, I guess at least a couple of her children have gone through this by this point, with her prior positions, so she's hopefully got a good system of balance going for her. It is a dumb point. Thanks for calling people out on it.
