The Jed Report: What Happened? (Extended)

  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
    Jed,

I think the McCains are hiding their adopted daughter from the press. McCain can't run a racist strategy if the KKK realise he has a "black" daughter. Hence the outrage of Obama's family interviews with his daughters. McCain knows from 2000, his daughter Bridget is a liability with the "cracker" vote. If Rove were a Democratic strategist, Bridget McCain would be in the news instead of Paris and Britney.

Nigel - Well, we already know what Rove did in 2000, but the good thing is that we are Democrats, and we won't do what they did. My view is that their family life is none of our business. We're not attacking McCain's children and the right-wing should be following our lead: the family is off limits.

Actually - Bridget has dark skin but appears to be of Indian, not African, descent.
  • Brian43ny · 1 year ago
Thanks Jed. Nice to see the lies come out a bit.

Funny how McCain supporters love to say how Obama stumbles when he is off script by saying oh and ahh. Too bad this will never see the light of day on the TV.
  • blkr00t · 1 year ago
McCain's views wont remain hidden for long...I hope that Obama is sandbagging on the debate issue vis a vis town halls to force McCain's camp into once again "forcing" him into doing it. Just like they "forced" him to go overseas and couldn't handle how great he did, I suspect that Obama is going to eat McCain for lunch during the townhalls. Just look how adroitly he handled a very tenuous situation the other day with the heckler. A good public speaker like Obama is capable of really upstaging McCain in an event such as this.

I think that with McCain making a public outcry for joint townhalls, leaves him no out and no excuse when Obama "reluctantly" agrees and destroys him.

McCain is nothing but a bully. A Rovian shell of his supposed “maverick” self.

Taunting, lying, and belittling are hardly qualities we want in our president.

How about a video of McCain after which the viewer will want to not only NOT vote for him, but punch the guy? He's managed to show himself as out of touch, insulting most Americans (I don't care what the American people think, not knowing what everyday Americans are going through, what stuff costs) and of course the 75 flip flops (LIES) for political expediency (see Carpetbaggerreport for the list).

Oh, and here's a sadly funny video (sad because it's true, but you'd never see it from the "real" media):
Bush Tours America To Survey Damage Caused By His Presidency

  • blkr00t · 1 year ago
Hannah you are absolutely right. The latest tactic of righteous indignation is very Rovian. Now today they have stated that they will react again to claims of "racism" by the only black candidate.

Mind you, they have already thrown down the same gauntlet so that noone dare speak about McCain without the obligatory, "honorable, hero, maverick..blah, blah, blah.

Where ARE those missing pages from his service record? ARe they not obtainable under the freedom of information act or have they been sealed? Why are parts of his record available but not the parts that allegedly relate to vioations and punitive measures?

OMFG you guys have to see this!

Notice how much McCain is blinking in the third angle close-up. This is not normal. Try to match him blink for blink or compare his blinking to the guy standing next to him. Such a blink rate is, I believe, often a sign of early Alzheimer's Dementia.
  • Micheline · 1 year ago
No he's playing dumb. Look at the smirk on his face.
  • RandyH · 1 year ago
I wonder if they're trying the hidden ear piece like they did with Bush in the 2004 debates. He looks confused like he's listening to two people at the same time... and he's too old to follow that kind of direction. Or maybe he just can't answer a two-part question anymore. He is VERY VERY old.
  • DenverBill · 1 year ago
Rove is all about the sandbox. "I know you are, but what am I?" or "Everything you say bounces off me and sticks to you." There is no imagination, there is no vision -- hence his party is going to parish. There are only attacks and counter attacks on the sandbox level.

Think about it. The black guy is not black enough; the black guy is the racist; the popular guy is bad because he's popular. Meanwhile the guy heading the racist party has been for civil rights; the guy heading the oil party says the other guy is causing the oil problem. Just think like a 4 year old and you'll truly understand the "genius" of Rove and where the McSame campaign is heading.

i sincerely hope that Rove delivers in 2008 just like he delivered in 2006.

What the hell is wrong with Bill Clinton? He is mentally ill. He really is. If he is so concerned about his legacy, the best thing he can do is to shut his hole and stay out of sight from now until Nov. 4th. This is not only not helpful, it is counter-productive to getting Obama elected, particularly as we have the McCain campaign throwing false charges at him. We also have a large media story about Hilton's mom condemning McCain's ads and this is just going to over shadow that. What an egomaniacal jackass. He truly is.

    http://www.abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=550...

The reality is that his legacy is so bad that Al Gore had to run away from him. He then did what he could to undermine Kerry. A good portion of the reason why his wife lost was him. And now he looks intent on trying to undermine Obama, like he did Kerry. What a despicable man, truly, truly despicable. And to think that I used to respect and defend him.

I agree with all of the above and hope Obama starts throwing the kitchen sink at
that nasty mean lying racist pig. Also I wish someone (Oberman or Mathews)
gets an expert on body language because there is a ton of body read and it unveils
the real nasty evil side(or sides) of TEFLON JOHN with the false sick smile,
smirking giggle. He's a real piece of garbage
  • Bill Gigliotti age 71 · 1 year ago
In addition I agree with the Bill Clinton comment and if he continues down
this road, Hillary can forget about any future runs for president because she will
not get half of the black vote. As far as Bill's legacy,FORGETABOUTIT!!
  • icebergslim · 1 year ago
Nice one, Jed. I am putting a diary up after midnight, my time. Giving you props..so in about 40 minutes.
  • evathia · 1 year ago
I agree debrazza. I have no idea what Bill's intentions are at this point. He's been clearly left bitter with the whole process and I find it incredible that a former president like him doesn't know when to STFU.
  • debrazza · 1 year ago
I could not venture a guess evathia about his intentions either. I just know what are the facts. And the facts are that he is politically radioactive and so absolutely narcissistic it is disgusting.

My personal opinion is that he should follow the lead of other Presidents who have retired with dignity and buy a seashore estate or a ranch and sit back there and write books or something.

I do know one thing, with the scale of money that goes into international aid and development every year and has occurred for decades (trust me, this is my field), the scale of money that he is raising and spending may be locally helpful in isolated cases, but it is not going to do what he wants, which is to be "the guy" who ends AIDS or something stupid like that.

I mean, even in terms of private foundations, he is getting dwarfed by the Gates Foundation. On top of that, NGO's like MSF and ICRC are much, much, much more effective than his organization could ever be. And quite frankly, I hear so little about his foundations work that it is practically meaningless in the development world. Then there are governments giving bi-lateral aid. The US during the Bush Administration has given over $5b in development aid and another $5b for AIDS and has committed another $40b for AIDS.

And I have not even talked about his politics. He is a disgusting man, a truly disgusting man. He has made sure that everyone can hear him, he gave an interview to the WaPo and is doing GMA. In the WaPo he says, "Next year, you and I and everybody else will be freer and have more space to say what we believe to be the truth"

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/03/bill-c...

There is no doubt in my mind that he is trying to screw Obama over to make him lose. No doubt at all.

Reminds me of a kindergarten kid with his hand up about to answer a question "uhhhh....I forgot" (class laughs)
  • andrewtna · 1 year ago
His actual response is the most important part of this. He says that Obama's comments were the "race card" -- He clearly doesn't know the use of the term; his campaign sure does though. Charlie Black learned perfected the art of playing the race card while working for Jesse Helms.

Jed - if you find the video, here is some extra potential clips of McCain on abortion from a May 2007 appearance on Meet the Press. He even goes on to say that he is not worried about illegal abortions.

I have been pro-life unchanging and unwavering for all of my political career

I have stated time after time after time that Roe v. Wade was a bad decision

MR. RUSSERT: ...would you be concerned that, as you said, X number of women in America would undergo illegal and dangerous operations?

    SEN. McCAIN: No

  • SeattleAJ · 1 year ago
Hey debrazza - well, at least here's a good NPR audio program that has a clip of one of McCain's statements on MTP above.

The topic of the NPR program: "Many Republican voters, however, seem to believe, incorrectly, that the current Republican front-runner, Arizona Sen. John McCain, supports abortion rights, too."

Here's a satire-heavy site that I forgot about that we could help direct folks to: http://www.womenforjohnmccain.com/ They have some very clever t-shirts.

Or NARAL's "Get the Facts on John McCain" site: http://chat.prochoiceamerica.org/content/interv... A good one: "Not only is he absolutely anti-choice, this is a guy who voted to terminate Title X family-planning programs. Title X provides low-income women with birth control and cancer screenings. That's pretty pathetic."

Hey Jed, thought this would be a nice re-play from a Keith O Special Comment on Bush, Cheney, and McCain back in 2006. re: Senator Kerry's statement "if you make the most of it, if you study hard, if you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you can get stuck. In Iraq"

At the time, Republicans, including McCain, lined up to bash Senator Kerry for the statement, alleging that Senator Kerry was insulting the troops. Olbermann argues that little did Bush realize that the joke was on Bush. McCain even went so far as to use the attack while supporting a local Republican congressional candidate in Illinois - whom the Democratic opponent had lost 2 legs in the Iraq war.

Eerie similarity between KO's remarks about Bush in this video, and 2008McCain's Republican campaign. McCain = Bush. McCain = Cheney
  • newguy · 1 year ago
    debrazza,

I just watched the ABC video and it kind of defines the problem with the media being in the tank for McCain. This is introduced as if it would be some kind of interview, but is actually a 20 second snippet, completely lacking in any context, designed to capture the words "I'm not a racist" on tape.

Basically, Obama's a racist, Clinton's a racist, and McCain is the kindly old war hero. The extent of the propaganda already exhibited in this election cycle is unparalleled.

Somebody needs to go completely postal on the media and maybe that someone is Clinton. It looks like he was kind of pissed and I'm betting he's not going to be too happy about the edit. An angry Clinton calling out media BS might be pretty useful.
  • MDA · 1 year ago
McCain is the "kindly old war hero." A great description for Obama folks to actually say, as it turns McCain's so-called positive against him! The phrase becomes code for OLD ... along with others, like ... "cold warrior' ... "VIETNAM war hero" (using the word VIETNAM is key) ... it makes war hero become a negative, as it reinforces the meme that McCain is OLD.

Meanwhile, Bill Clinton is completely off the reservation. It's still all about him. He cares for nothing or no one other than himself, and Hillary and Chelsea are massive enablers.
  • Lexamich · 1 year ago
In the "What Happened?" video, it is obvious that what stymied McCain was the question concerning "improving the lives of African-Americans." With the poker face and forked tongue of his, he danced around being really specific and simply reemphasized his "race card" charge. He heard the question loud and clear.

One must always observe someone with a semi-sterling reputation when they're under pressure. Obama has not changed from what he said he was back in '04. Meanwhile, since 2000, McCain has gone through many switches in presentation; he rivals Madonna.

McCain is a straight-up weasel, and I'm tempted to believe those right-wingers that said he gave up the goods during captivity. I tell you the truth, I've been around weaselly folks all my life - snitches, rats, pigeons, chicken****s, and stoolies. McCain is now bearing all the characteristics off a rat under protection. He's inept at thinking on his feet, and that "straight talk" gibberish is now seen as the fair-weather prattle it always was. Like Bush 43, McCain was running against Bill Clinton, and that is why he ran as a more considerate GOP lacky.

The truth is, there's no core to McCain; he's a military brat whose fable was ripe for revision. As you read up on his history, one thing becomes clear; that time in Veitnam was probably the first and the last time he ever got a taste of some semblance of an average American reality. Most with a story like his don't get fables which the swine media will defend for their own rep's sake; they get posthumous recognition and a mention on a wall. I'm not trying to be disrespectful of anyone's service, but if all someone like McCain does is come back to be a lapdog for a bunch of charlatans, he should have stayed his butt in the cage.

And I mean that from the pit of my soul.

I can't stand weaselly people, much less spoiled, overgrown brats. McCain is proving to be both.

    P.S.
EclecticBrotha's video showcase is either a superlative example of GOP hypocrisy (thereby making it an excellent vid) or the GOP's secret weapon (a detriment to Obama in the long run).

    Hear me out.

The latently racist Republicans are not about to have a...let's say "Democrat of a particular hue" taking the mantle of "great communicator" from The Gipper. That ad may be just the thing to fire up that...base McCain and the GOP are attempting to incite with Paris and Britney.

I understand it's subtleties, but other, more idiotic folks may feel threatened by its assertions.

Understanding the enemy and telegraphing its reaction is what I'm attempting to do with this notion.

Beware, but don't mind me; I'm a bit paranoid.
